Imani Vaughn-Jones

Hey there, I'm Imani.

I'm an actress, writer, and filmmaker based in Atlanta, GA. When I'm not on the stage or screen, you can find me furiously jotting down story ideas as I'm a playwright, screenwriter, and poet; or you can find me giving other indie producers advice and inspiration on my Instagram and TikTok pages. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing & English, with a concentration in screenwriting (summa cum laude, #humblebrag).

My most recent piece of filmmaking good news is winning ‘Best Actress’ for my film Double Delivery at the East Village New York film festival. The film is a heartfelt comedy about two sisters throwing a baby shower who have their world turned upside-down when the man delivering their food happens to be their long-lost deadbeat dad. We’re still submitting to festivals and also pitching the series—the film doubles as a proof of concept. (See what I did there?)

I wrote, produced, and directed the film. Private viewing link is available upon request.

I’ve done other cool stuff too; on the acting front, I recently celebrated the release of Secret Life of a Dominatrix, where I held a supporting role in the feature film directed by Gabriela Revilla Lugo. You can stream it on Tubi. You may have also seen me as the recurring character Zayla on NBC’s hit show Ordinary Joe. If you haven’t, you can stream it on Peacock and Hulu.

On the writing front, we’re celebrating my writing on the pilot episode of Probably Problematic with TS Madison, produced by FOX Soul. We garnered over 160,000 views across platforms. I was also named as a Dihvinely Konnecked Fellow with Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre. It’s a distinguishment I’m pretty proud of and you can read my commission here.

When I’m not wearing one of my many hats, I like to visit the library (a dying passtime) or chow down at my local taco stand.

Feel free to have a look around and reach out! I look forward to us working together.

What people are saying…

“‘Well-Intentioned White People’ is at once a nuanced, compassionate story of individuals struggling to care for one another and a raging, righteous exposure of the wounds that white people inflict upon Black people -- even when we're "trying." To my fellow white people: it will make you cringe. It will make you cry. The dialogue sears. The poetry soars. The questions refuse easy answers. This play deserves to be invested in.”

“There are many things I enjoy about the writing of Imani Vaughn-Jones, and in 'A Single F*cking Retweet' it's especially the emotional truth and honesty of the dialogue. The characters are incredibly vivid and real, and their connection/past history very clear. The retweet itself opens the world of the play to racism, signaling support vs activism, and even the burdens placed on teachers. And the final lines provide a satisfying ending while also taking my imagination to what happens next.”
